Half a Century of Light Birthday Party Theme

In our version, each guest brings a birthday candle and a special wish for the birthday person. The wish should be written on a piece of paper. There's no need for the person to sign their name.

Bake a large cake, 'cause you'll need it. Each guest places their candle on the cake and the wish in a fishbowl, shoebox, or whatever you have to collect wishes.

When the birthday person blows out his or her candles, she gets her wishes. No doubt reading a few aloud will be sentimental, funny and a great conversation starters!

The Original Half a Century of Light Theme: 50th Birthday Ideas

Dhani of Lompoc, CA celebrated her 50th birthday with 50 candles. Not too unusual. But, she did it in a very creative way. Read on for her inspirational idea.

I am going to tell my idea from what I did for my 50th. I decided to give myself a 50th birthday party but you can do it for a loved one or special friend.

Invite at least 50 people and ask each person to bring a special candle as their gift. Along with it, on a beautiful piece of paper, guests write a poem or memory that reminds them of or is about the birthday recipient. Have an early evening party and when the sun sets everyone can go outside.

Believe me it will be dark by the time you get all 50 candles lit (have about three people working on it). Take lots of pictures. It only happens once. The scene is simply breathtaking, and the positive energy of being surrounded by 50 significant people in your life can make any person turning 50 only count their blessings and look forward not back!!!

Some people may think it's hard to come up with 50 people but really its not, just open the birthday persons personal phonebook with their significant other and go page by page. Invite even acquaintences, teachers from college, yoga instructors, hair dressers, etc.
