Best Sugar Cookie Recipe

Sugar Cookie Recipe: Makes 5 to 6 dozen 2-inch square cookies

• 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
• 1 cup butter
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon of real vanilla
• 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract (this can be omitted if you don't have it)
• 2 1/2 cups flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 teaspoon cream of tartar (baking section of grocery store)

Cream the sugar and butter in a mixing bowl. Mix in the egg, vanilla and almond extract.

In a separate bowl, blend all the dry ingredients together. Then, mix the dry ingredients into the butter and cream mixture.

Create two balls, wrap in cellophane and refridgerate for 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Remove the cookie dough from the refrigerator. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to approximately 1/4 inch (or slightly less). Use a cookie cutter to create the desired shapes.

Place the cookies on a lightly greased baking sheet (or a non-stick cookie sheet). Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until they are slightly golden. Decorate with easy to make sugar cookie icing.
