Bridal Shower Etiquette
Knowledge of bridal shower etiquette can go a long way when planning a bridal shower. Bridal Showers are great for laughs, getting friends and family together, and for "showering" the bride with gifts. But who hosts the bridal shower, what gifts do you bring, and how do you plan a party that everyone will enjoy? Here are the answers to all your bridal shower etiquette questions:
Who hosts the bridal shower?A wedding shower or bridal shower is typically hosted by the maid of honor and is held anywhere from six months to a week before the wedding. However, if the maid of honor lives out of town, the shower may be held by another member of the bridal party or a close friend. Traditionally, it is not held by a family member.
Where is a bridal shower hosted? The maid of honor may have the party in her home. If she isn't able to accommodate the number of guests, the shower can be held at a friend's home or a public venue such as a park, a club, or a private room in a restaurant. Whether it's a co-ed bridal shower or just for the girls, bridal showers can range from elegant brunches and garden parties to cocktail parties ... or even backyard barbeques.
Do you bring a gift to the shower and the wedding?
For the shower, you could select something you'd like to bride to have. For the wedding gift, you could select something from the bridal registry. The amount paid for the gift depends on what the giver can comfortably afford. Keep in mind bridal shower etiquette when selecting the types of gifts to bring to a bridal shower. Gifts for a bridal shower and gifts for a bachelorette party are two different things. Consider whether the bridal shower is co-ed. Even if the wedding shower consists of just women, guests will include family members of several generations and backgrounds. Certain lingerie may be acceptable for a females-only bridal shower. But a much more conservative approach should be recognized than that of a bachelorette party.
Who is invited to a bridal shower? The bride should provide a guest list of the people she would like to invite. Guests invited to a shower should receive an invitation to the wedding, but not everyone who receives a wedding invitation needs to be invited to the shower. Generally, out of town guests are not invited to the shower unless the shower is within a close time frame of the wedding, or the guest is a particularly close friend to the bride. Bridal shower etiquette has changed a bit over the years. It has been typically a female-only party. But many brides now-a-days wish to include the men in their bridal shower plans. This is a very popular choice that makes everyone feel special. |
