Secret Stocking Christmas Gift Exchange Game
The Secret Stocking Christmas Gift exchange game is a unique idea that we cooked up right here at Themed-Party-Ideas.com Since we love Christmas party games, and have played so many at our own parties, we occasionally have like to mix it up from time to time so that we’re not always playing the same game.
Here’s one more great Christmas party game that you’ll love!
Each guest fills a sock (or stocking) with generic, fun, un-wrapped gift and brings it to the party. Place all the stockings in a central location, if you can hang them from cup hooks, even better!
It’s important that the gift remains unwrapped and inside the sock or stocking in order to play a novel and interesting Christmas party game.
Begin by having guests draw numbers. In order of the number they drew, each guest selects a stocking.
The object of this Christmas gift exchange game is for guests to guess the contents of the stocking only by feeling the outside of the stocking.
During a turn, each guest announces his best guess out loud. He then looks in the stocking, if he guessed correctly he could choose to keep the stocking, or put it back and try his luck at guessing the contents of another stocking.
However, if the guest guesses the contents incorrectly, he MUST keep the stocking and its contents. Players guess the stocking contents until they either find a gift they like by guessing correctly or are forced to keep the gift because they guessed incorrectly.
After a player keeps his stocking, he must place the gift back in the stocking so that no one can see it (this comes into play at the end of the game).
Of course, if a guest guesses the contents of a stocking correctly and decides to put it back in order to get a better present, everyone at the party will know the contents of that stocking. That’s OK!
1. It’s hard to keep up with all those stockings and…
2. You never know what someone will try to win during this funny Christmas party game.
After the first person has gone, the person who drew number 2 may have a turn and the same rules apply.
By the time you get to the last player, it’s likely that he may know the contents of the stockings, or he will guess incorrectly and be forced to keep the contents.
To keep it fun for the last player (only the last player), if he guesses the contents of the final stocking correctly, he may keep it or exchange that stocking with any other player, so long as he remembers the contents of the other player’s stocking. If he guesses the contents of another player’s stocking incorrectly, he must keep the final stocking.
The Secret Santa gift exchange game is perfect for large family gatherings or office Christmas parties, where you don't want for everyone to have to give a gift to everyone else.
It can be simple or involved, often depending on the budget you want to set. For the simple version, just have everyone place their name in a jar for a drawing (or if people can't meet, then you'll need one person to draw for everyone else).
Each name can be accompanied by a checklist that tells the giver if this person has any special requests, dislikes, allergies, etc. (See an example checklist on our Secret Santa Poems page.
Then everyone gets a gift for the person whose name they drew. The fun is not only in receiving the gift, but in guessing the giver's identity. The the gift receiver gets a poetic clue about the giver's identity: "Who's Secret Santa? Here's a clue. She likes to ____ and likes you too!"
For a more involved version of Secret Santa, give gifts for a few days or a week. In an office situation, the gifts could all be placed in one location.
The gift giver will write a clue for each gift. So that yours will be the best, visit this page for some ideas!See more of our ideas for Christmas gift exchange games. Starred stories are from visitors like you.
This alternative Christmas gift exchange game will be a fantastic hit at your Christmas party. This game can be played with players of all ages.
Then you, the host, contribute a few nice gifts that everyone will want to "steal". A good bottle of wine or a gift certificate to a nice restaurant are sure to cause a gift exchange frenzy!
Every year, my friends ask, "Are you doing the white elephant gift exchange again for this year's Christmas party? It's my favorite part of the party!" Since everyone loves these games so much I even found a way to create a gift exchange out of pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey for my husband's 40th birthday! It was a big hit, proving that any party is a great time for gift exchange games.
