How about a birthday John party for a man named John. But you could use any popular name. For my husband's 50th birthday, I hosted a "Come as Your Favorite John" party. The invitation included the name of every famous John I could think of, from John Adams to John Travolta to Long John Silver.

Ladies could dress up as a John, a Joan, or the other half of a Mr. and Mrs. John. We put the John theme to work in the menu as well, serving a "Johnny Appleseed" (apple martini), johnny cakes with salsa for an appetizer, "John Hamm" ham biscuits, etc. I also purchased a few life-sized cardboard cutouts of John Wayne, John Kennedy, and Johnny Depp for decoration. People came up with great costumes. We had several Jackie Kennedys, two Joan Jetts, John McCain and Sarah Palin, John the Baptist with his head on a silver platter, Don Juan, Elton John, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, and of course a dude with a toilet seat around his neck. Several close friends also dressed up as the birthday boy himself, which was hilarious. Best party ever.
