Haunted House GamesPlanning haunted house games for your special spooky night?
Warning: Do not read this page! Unless you love Halloween parties! These are the most popular Halloween party games. Of course, there are tons of other adult Halloween games and games that are great for kids as well on our Halloween party games page. These are some of the most fun traditional games you may remember from when you were a kid. In places, we added a bit of a twist to keep things fresh.
Start with a punch bowl or a large bowl and fill it with ghostly green lime punch or some other green drink. Float small marshmallows on top. Give each player a straw. Using a timer, each guest has 30 seconds (or a minute) to see how many ghosts they can capture. How do they do it? Simple, the player puts the straw in his or her mouth and uses suction to capture the ghost marshmallow on the other end. Without touching the marshmallow, he or she must place the marshmallow in a second bowl located at the other end of he table. The marshmallows are counted after each player. The player who captures the most ghosts wins! A variation on this for a large group would be to have players play tournament style. Team up players in say groups of 5 or 6. Have as many bowl as you do players on the team plus one. That is, if you have 6 players, have 7 bowls. Place the bowls along the length of a table or an obstacle course. Have player number 1 sequester a "ghost" and place it in bowl number 2. Guest 2 (waiting at bowl number 2) will in turn transport it to bowl number 3 and so forth. You can time team number 1, then team number 2, etc. Or, if you have a party of 12 people, you can have one team start at one end of the bowl run, and one at the other. To keep track of whose marshmallows are whose in the middle of the run, you'll need differently colored marshmallows.
Balloon Animal Game: Haunted House GamesNo need to be a professional balloon artist with this game. You need only have a little "crazy clown" in your genes!Give each contestant an assortment of long skinny balloons (the type that balloon animals are made from). Guests have a small amount of time, say 2 to 3 minutes, to create as many balloon animals as they can. The host sets the rules. So that every animal isn't a snake or a worm, you may want to require that every animal consist of two different balloons. The winner is determined by popular vote. If you like, you can display the animals in groups according to who created them and have guests vote on the group of animals they like best. Tara of Orangeville California wrote in a very crafty idea for making a vampire bat out of balloons in her Vampire Themed Party. Her instructions will make it easy for you to do the same!
Bobbing For Apples: Haunted House GamesBobbing for apples is a traditional Halloween game inspired by fall. If you have a barrel to float apples in, great! But if not, use a big tin ice bucket or ice chest like the ones you often see holding soft drinks and beer at summer barbeques.Fill your bucket or ice chest with apples and let the bobbing begin. Remember, players can only use their teeth to capture the apples, so you may want to provide paper towels for quick cleanup!
Face painting: Haunted House GamesEveryone loves face painting. It's great for children's parties, but I've even seen adults who indulge in the fun activity. Do worry if you're not an artist! Keep it simple. Paint a few whiskers and a triangle on the nose and you've got a cat. Or, a small pumpkin on the cheek is also an easy image to paint.
Donut on a String Game: Haunted House GamesWhat people won't do for a delicious donut! Be sure to take photos of this game because you'll want to preserve the memory for all posterity!Tie a very long string around a donut and fasten the other end of the string to a very sturdy ceiling hook or fixture (or you can use a tree branch if outside). The donut needs to be just above the contestant's head. The object is for the player to eat the donut using his or her teeth only (no hands). The player must jump for the donut. The reward is the donut itself! There's really no official winner. To make the game even more challenging, instead of tying the other end of the string to the ceiling hook, take an extra long string and place it through the ceiling hook. One person pulls the exposed end of the string to raise and lower the donut. It's just simply cruel (and that's what makes it so much fun!)
Candy Corn Guessing Game: Halloween Party GamesEveryone remembers this one! The hope that you'll be right ... the anticipation ... how many candy corn are in that jar?! Fill a jar with candy corn, empty the corn into a bowl to count, and refill the jar with the counted candy corn. The guest who guesses the closest to the number of candy corn in the jar gets to take it home! Of course, you can do this with other treats as well, such as chocolate covered coffee beans (yum) or hand-pulled taffy. The choice is yours!
