Group Costume Idea for Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas:

I thought the show was hilarious and I saw a Lt. Dangle costume in a shop. But it was a cheap shiny plastic thing so I decided to make my own. Then 3 friends saw what I was doing and wanted to join in.

This submission was an entry in our fun monthly contest.

You too can submit for a chance to win Cash Prizes. We'll post our next Halloween costume contest opportunity on facebook. So join us to stay in the loop.

I handmade these costumes and ordered pieces online such as the arm patches and badges. The nametags were done at a trophy shop and I got the duty belts from goodwill. I made the night sticks from pvc and electrical tape.

I found the "cop glasses" at the 99 cent store. I think the fact that we have the 4 main characters really helps the costume idea.

In a magical forest lived a little green pixie determined to arrive on the mainland in time for the party. She fluttered right into the hearts of all around her with her musical entrance.

The little girls around engaged in a game of cloudhopping and a flying lesson from Tink herself.

Everybody was also a winner in a pin the star on the wand game. Searching for the enchanted mirror was an adventure that none will forget there even after Tinkerbell flutters away.

This costume was easily put together with satin fabric and a pair of wings with added color from the silver markers. The wig was created by a local wig artist and put on the finishing touch

Beebot: Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

Submitted by Johnny of Vista CA

Beebot Homemade Costume Idea In this picture I am at the middle school I work in. Faculty is allowed to dress up and try to win some prizes. A fellow teacher, let's call him Mr. Z wins every year and has done so for the past few years until I joined the school.

The year I decided to break his undefeated status I went all out and created BeeBot my transformer costume Transformers had just come out and I was inspired to create a costume that would allow me to transform. It was a challenge but it worked.

Lots of kids loved my costume They cheered so loud that it was no contest at all I was so happy to win and kids were already looking forward to next year

My costume was comprised of cardboard parts and then fiberglass I made sure it was designed to fit any body so it was a basic transformation Since it was yellow I named it Bee-Bot (more like a second cousin of Bumblebees.

Very expensive but worth the trouble. The goggles had some lights on the sides so it added to the effect. I used a voice changer to add to the "robot experience". It was worth seeing all those happy faces at work.

Lego Guy Costume Idea

Submitted by Jeremy of Boston, MA, USA

Lego Guy Costume Idea
This years Halloween costume is a dream come true. Although boxy, Jeremy got to be one of his favorite childhood toys. He has a way of making the costume expressive.

Construction was a fun process. My favorite was the hands - paper, foam and a lot of tape. Functionality was key!

This submission was an entry in our fun monthly contest.

You too can submit for a chance to win Cash Prizes. Stay tuned on facebook or by joining our newsletter for the next Halloween Costume Contest.

The body presented difficulty upon painting it as it is constructed from foam insulation and it melts when sprayed with spray paint. This was fixed with more tape and an acrylic spray paint. The buttons bow tie logo on top of the head were cut paper and added after construction with a clear glossy acrylic layer I left the eyes and mouth holes open for airflow and visibility.

I have lived in the west end of Toronto for many years now, and have always enjoyed the creativity that is associated with this part of the city. I am a lover of music, and happen to look like the musician Bjork.

2 years ago I decided to re-create a dress she wore at an awards show. It was a quirky swan dress that got a lot of interest and attention. It took me 8hrs to sew, and it was absolutely a labour of love.

I even got a friend to draw a tattoo on my arm to really make it look real. I wore it on the eve of Halloween and went out with a bunch of friends on Queen St. It was a hit and everyone knew who I was dressed as. It was the most fun I've ever had on Halloween! Thanks for reminding me! :)

Life Size Barbie Costume:
Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

Submitted by Melissa Gibson of Rochester, NY

Life Size Barbie Costume
Being a makeup artist...I wanted to do something pretty and glamorous this year. Then...it came to me! What's more pretty and glamorous than Barbie!? LOL So I ran with it.

There was so much to think of. So many costume choices. So many different kinds of Barbies have been made over the years.

Life Size Barbie Costume I then decided that I would be a limited edition style Barbie LOL. Which means I would need an elaborate theme...or a gown. I opted for a gown since I was pressed for time.

I hit all the thrift stores in my area in about 2 day and found a beautiful Lavender colored gown for $15!! Once I found the gown...everything else fell in place! I paired my lavender gown with a big pair of chandelier earrings, a pearl necklace and a large pearl cocktail ring. I found a wig in my stash.

And, since the wig had bangs and long curls...I figured it would work. I used vibrant colors of Lancome eyeshadow...but anything will work for costume purposes. I also chose a pinky colored blush and gloss. And opted for false eyelashes for a more "dolly" effect.

Now...I know that I am a woman of color, but I have come to know Barbie as an icon that embraces all races and cultures! So I didn't hesitate at all =) However, I wanted to make it official so that it could not be mistaken that I was a Barbie doll. So I made a box!!

I had to crudely piece together 2 to 3 boxes to attain the size that I needed. (I would suggest trying to find one at an appliance store etc. if time permits so you don't have to piece one together). I then used spray adhesive and lined the inside of the box with lavender fabric I found at Walmart for $1/yd.

I covered the outside in white paper to mask the tape and then spray painted it with nickel colored Krylon paint in a satin finish. I let it dry for a few minutes between coats.

I downloaded different Barbie fonts to my computer, found one I like and printed out the word Barbie. I also found a Mattel logo image and printed that out as well. Then, I pasted the Mattel logo to the top of my box. I cut out the Barbie letters and pasted them to my box as well (using the spray adhesive). Next to the Mattel logo I wrote "limited edition" with a jumbo sized black sharpie.

To finish things off I cut a piece of cello gift basket wrapping and taped it to the inside of the top of the box (I didn't tape the bottom so that I could get in and out easily LOL).

A clear vinyl shower curtain would also work well and is much more durable. I also made handles out of fancy silver covered wire on each side of the box. The handles also served as arm restraints for more "Barbie" effect.

And Voila! That's the story of my Life Size Barbie Costume.

  • ESTIMATED LABOR: 5 hrs.
  • COST:$35

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • -Girlie Barbie-like costume (complete with accessories etc.)
  • -Wig (optional)
  • -Large box (preferably an appliance, furniture or wardrobe sized box)
  • -Spray paint
  • -Spray adhesive
  • -Packing tape
  • -Scissors
  • -Fabric/wrapping paper (if you choose to line/wrap your box vs. spray painting)
  • -Barbie letters
  • -Mattel logo
  • -Jumbo black Sharpie
  • -Cello wrap/a clear vinyl shower curtain
EXTRAS: *Use glitter, paint etc. to decorate the box and logos. *Decorate the backdrop of the box to match your Barbies theme (either free hand, posters, decorative wrapping, computer print outs etc.) *Make sure the box is a size your comfortable with! You can make a shorter box so that your legs can move more freely.

Ninja from the 80s Costume: Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

Ninja from the 80s Costume
It is me in my Shogun of Harlem costume throwing a kick. The costume is handmade.

The character 'Shogun' is from the 1980's movie "The Last Dragon" (a martial arts movie).

This submission was an entry in our fun monthly contest.

You too can submit for a chance to win Cash Prizes. Stay in the loop by joining us on facebook. New contest coming soon!

His costume is just about impossible to even find so my wife and I had to make it. The only pieces I bought were the shutter shade glasses, wig, and the forearm braces. I have on the exact replica of the movie outfit he has.

The movie stars Taimak, who is a famous martial artist, Vanity, and Julius J. Carry the 3rd star in the movie. This movie was a hit when it came out.

The outfit was not impossible to do, but it was hard. The making of my upper part of the costume was the hardest - trying to keep that wide look of the shoulder was done by using wire hangers covered with red bed sheet covers. I put the same thing into my old black karate pants that I am wearing.

I added red shoe laces to my converse shoes (exactly like the movie). Many people knew who I was when I went out to the parties. It was fun being the "Shogun of Harlem"

A You Need is Love Halloween Costume Idea

Submitted by Diane Roscoe of Brookfield, Ohio

A few years ago a local venue was having a Halloween party and our group of neighborhood friends decided to make an evening of it and have a night out together.

This submission was an entry in our fun monthly contest.

Join us on facebook. We'll post the next contest opportunity, and you'll be in the know!

About 20 of us were each trying to come up with something fun to wear and none of us wanted to take the easy way out and just go out and buy a costume.

After a few days and lots of different ideas, we came up with the idea of going as a "commune". Most of us grew up in the "make love not war" generation so it was a fun idea for all of us to go back in time for an evening. It was a fairly cheap and easy costume for everyone to be able to put together and even my three daughters and some of their friends got into it.

The 'girls' dressed in long flowery dresses or jeans with peace signs and heart patches on them and long tunic tops and there were lots of beads and flower garlands in our hair and painted hearts and flowers on our faces.

The guys wore tie-dyed tee shirts, jeans and headbands and they loved the idea of not having to "dress up"! We carried peace signs and some of us wore the tinted "granny glasses" that were popular back in the day. It was such a fun evening for all of us, especially since it brought back so many memories for everyone to share. And the band that played that night was an "oldies" band, so that made it even more fun!

Western Halloween Costume

Submitted by Rachel of Arkansas, USA

I dressed up as a Saloon girl from the old West, and my boyfriend dressed up as a Gentleman/Cowboy.

This submission was an entry in our fun Halloween costume contest.
He wore a suit with a vest and a bow tie and a cowboy hat, while I wore a red and black dress that was short in the front but had ruffles and a train behind it. I also wore a black corset with red laces on top of my dress.

For accessories, I wore a head piece, an old necklace, black see-through gloves with an old ring, and fish net hose with short leather boots that laced up.

Editor's Note:

A great costume is all about the details! A few well thought out accessories really make the costume authentic!

Zombie Vic: Last Minute Costume Ideas

Zombie Vic: Last Minute Costume Ideas My girlfriends dared me to dress up to go a Halloween party. I did not have a costume. I only had makeup so I came with this idea for a zombie costume.

It was a fun walk 8 blocks scaring kids and people along the way.

I had a t-shirt, cut it up, put fake blood on it and put white makeup on my face.

This years Halloween costume is a fusion of not wanting to miss out on a chance to be a slutty playboy bunny and a childhood love of all things Lego. This is what is called "dorky hot," or so I'm told. This was also an excellent compromise for work appropriate sexy costume.

Got Wood? Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

Submitted by Rick Herring of Palm Coast, FL

My Wife and I both dressed up in brown clothes to look like wood, she wore a big "2" on the front of her shirt and I wore a big "4" on the front of my shirt.

We'd stand next to each other, her on my right, and we'd cross our arms like an "x", thus making us a "2 X 4" piece of lumber.

Now the fun part, on our backs we each had our anti-anxiety medicine prescriptions which meant.....we were "pressure treated lumber". It got a big laugh out of everybody. It was something I just dreamed up.
