Game themed parties are perfect for getting everyone in on the action. One visitor wrote in her idea called, The Price is Right Party. Guests bring a dish for a pot-luck dinner and bring unwanted items from around the house ... everything from coffee mugs to Aunt Milly’s hand crocheted toilet tissue cover.
Games are played in order to exchange gifts. We think this is a perfect match for poker parties. The ante begins with a hole-punch and is raised with a table lamp!
Other game themed parties include playing mystery games - party games where each guest participate in solving a mystery. Or, "Return to Childhood" with pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey and pinatas make hilarious adult birthday party game ideas. You can read all about real parties where this has been done on the "Spaghetti Western Fiesta" Page and Adult Birthday Party Ideas page.
And, of course, everyone loves backyard party games for backyard parties, family reunions, and tailgating parties.
Party games can also be more subtle as well. Social Bingo is a great example of this. Give our free bingo cards to each guest. Guests must fill their bingo cards by meeting other guests who match the description in each bingo square. Visit the Icebreaker Games Page for complete instructions on how to play.
With a poker night invitation, send a playing card along with your invitation that guests must bring with them for the first hand.
Note that we also mention "role-playing" games as a party focus. So have a look at this category too for party game ideas.
Our visitor Carolyne of Dumont, New Jersey wrote in about having thrown a game show themed party. She wrote, "The best parties we've thrown have had a Game Show theme to them...Family Fued, Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal, Gong Show, Newlywed Game...the older and cornier, the better."

Lets Make a Deal Party
Brion of Charlottesville, Virginia, said her favorite game show party was the time she tailored her party theme after the popular "Let's Make a Deal." If you've never seen the show, Wayne Brady (From "Who's Line is it Anyways") picks people to make a deal with. Some games include cash or a small box. He will offer you $500 to keep, or give it up for the small box. The box might contain something better, a lesser deal, or a "zonk." If it's a zonk you lose everything.
So the host picks someone at the party to make a deal with. He or she creates a game and you can do it for prizes instead of money such as a brand new toaster.
Now, playing with real money can be a bit costly! So here's an idea. Print our printable play money and then at the end of the evening award a prizes for the one who's won the most.
Price is Right Party Idea
Sarita, of Baltimore, Maryland, wrote in with this favorite theme she's hosted: a Price is Right party.
For the Price is Right party, the price is always right because everything is FREE. Invite friends and family over to your place. They must bring a dish and a few unwanted items ... things like lamps, clothing, kids (just kidding) and other items that they are no longer using.
Play games and basically trade unneeded/unwanted items. What can be more for than getting free things? And whatever is left over you should donate. So have fun and give a little.
