Sports Themed Party

Football Party Ideas A sports themed party is one of those terrific birthday ideas for men!

I recently went to a 40th birthday party for a friend. His wife created a simple yet really fun sport themed party that even "non" sports fans found to be a blast. Her 40th birthday party ideas were right on cue with what her husband wanted - casual and laid back.

Guests were asked to wear an NFL jersey or team T-shirt for whatever team they support. Since I'm really a college football fan, I wore my college team sweat shirt.

Other guests who don't follow football wore sports themed clothing from every type of sport including one person who wore a Harley Davidson themed t-shirt and hat as he said it was the closest "sports" related clothing he owned!

Everyone's sports themed clothing turned out to be a really nice icebreaker because party-goers struck up conversations based on the team they were representing.

The party was held in the garage which had been converted into the neighborhood beer brewing bar. The garage doors were opened, the outdoor chimney was fired up, and of course there was a game on the TV that resides in the "bar".

The food was really simple, cost effective, and it worked great. All the food was served just as it would be in a stadium: hotdogs wrapped in foil, popcorn in brown bags, etc.

The host created stations for each item she served. Create your own food stations using her ideas. Here are some suggestions:

Popcorn Bar: Set out several brown bags of popcorn and containers of salt, melted butter, Cajun spice, m&m candy, and whatever else you like mixed with popcorn.

Hotdog Station: Make up lots of hotdogs in advance and wrap them in individual foil sheets (just like you'd get at the game). Provide relish, sauerkraut, mustard, pickles, mayo, barbeque sauce, etc.

Nacho Bar: Everyone loves game nachos. Make queso in a crock pot and serve chopped onions, jalapenos, shredded cheese, black olives, and sour cream.

Of course, there were plenty of party games appropriate for a sports themed party including corn hole, darts, and casino games.
