Sugar Cookie Icing

You can really let your creativity soar when you add just a few drops of food coloring to this white icing. The possibility for your Christmas sugar cookies, Halloween cookies and Easter cookies are endless!

Icing for Sugar Cookies

• 1 cup confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)
• 1/2 teaspoon of salt
• 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla (or almond, lemon, or peppermint)
• Enough liquid to make the icing spread (1 to 1/2 tablespoons of water, cream, or orange juice)
• A drop or two of food coloring if desired

Blend all of the ingredients (except food coloring) in a bowl. Once the icing is made, tint if desired. Spread the icing on the sugar cookies using a spatula or a pastry brush. More liquid may be used if the icing isn't spreadable. Be careful not to add too much liquid.

If using icing in a pastry tube, reduce the amount of liquid in the icing recipe to about 3/4 tablespoons. You want just enough liquid to make the icing easy to force through a pastry tube. Adding too much liquid will prevent you from being able to control the icing that comes from the tube!
