Toy Story Games and Activities
Toy Story games are the best way to entertain kids at a toy story birthday party! These creative party games will delight your kids and make your party planning so much fun!
Toy Story Birthday Games
Hosting a Toy Story birthday party? Play around with these party game ideas; they’re perfect for the Toy Story theme!
Pin the Parts on Mr. Potato Head
Create a game similar to "Pin the tail on the Donkey", but with a Toy Story theme. You can create a large poster board and construction paper to make the game: "Pin the Parts on Mr. Potato Head".
Create a Mr. Potato from a large piece of poster board. Using construction paper, cut out various body parts that the children can pin on Mr. potato head.
Each child could have their own Mr. Potato Head part to pin onto the potato poster you created.
For example, create eyes, eyebrows, nose, moustache, hat, mouth, ears, arms and shoes. One at a time, blindfold each player.
Turn the player around in circles a couple of times and then let him or her try to stick his/her assigned Mr. Potato Head part onto the right area of the potato. The closest wins!
Toy Story Games: Rescue Buzz Lightyear
Of all the Toy Story games your children can play, a rescue mission has to be the most creative for this birthday party theme! When the children are ready to start the Toy Story games, let them know that Evil Emperor Zurg (space villain action figure and the enemy of Buzz Lightyear) has captured Buzz!
Woody, along with his toy friends, requires the children’s help to find Buzz and rescue him.
This party game will set your children on a quest to solve problems and find clues. Some are quite a challenge and may require parent’s assistance, but your kids will marvel when they help solve the mystery!
Start by providing the children with their first clue and send them off for their rescue mission.
Set this up as a treasure/scavenger hunt filled with challenges to complete along the way. Incorporate many of the Toy Story characters in the missions and obstacles. Your clue locations will depend on the area that you are hosting the party in.
Suggestions for Hidden Clues
For these Toy Story games, you’ll need to hide clues in various locations: in a toy box, closet, pantry, under a table, etc.
As children complete challenges and find new clues, they’ll always find a note that reads "Evil Emperor Zurg was here and has already moved Buzz to a new location! You must complete this challenge to receive your next clue".
You’ll need to hide a Buzz Lightyear toy in your final clue location for the children to find. Present the kids with the first challenge and read the challenges and clues if neccessary. Some ideas for Toy Story birthday party challenges are:
Let the Toy Story Games Begin!
Etch-A-Sketch Challenge:
Have one of the clues lead them to an Etch-A-Sketch with a challenge that reads:
"Choose one person to be the Etch-A-Sketch artist.
This person will be required to draw a picture of the next clue location for you to guess.
He or she cannot speak nor do any actions to reveal the clue to you.
You must guess only by the Etch-A-Sketch drawing".
Then hand the child chosen as the artist the clue for them to draw on the Etch-A-Sketch.
Of course, you can also do this challenge with crayons and paper, but since the Etch-A-Sketch is a theme in the movie, it’s a fun challenge!
Buried Dinosaur Challenge:
Another idea is to include a clue to a sandbox with a challenge that reads:
"Some of Rex’s friends were buried here by the children of Sunnyside Daycare.
In order to receive your next clue, you must uncover {X amount} of Rex’s dinosaur friends".
You can find small plastic dinosaurs at your local dollar story to bury in the sand for this challenge. You can also find dinosaurs in the Toy Story Party Supplies Shop!
Lenny Binocular Challenge:
A pair of binoculars (you can call these "Lenny" after the wind up binoculars from the Toy Story movie) can be used for another challenge.
Have the children try to locate a flag that you’ve hung in an area that is within their view but far enough away that they may need binoculars to see it. For example, hang a red flag in a neighbor"s yard or tied to a tree down the street.
Your challenge could read
"Lenny is here to help you find the red flag that has been placed in a secret location.
Spot this flag and you’ll be given your next clue".
Morse Code Challenge:
The mutant toys living at Sid’s house can’t speak but they do know Morse code. Use a chart of Morse code letters and numbers for a fun challenge (see a kid-friendly chart in the Toy Story Party Supplies Shop or make your own Morse Code Chart).
In this challenge, children have to take a documented Morse code clue from the mutant toys and compare it to the morse code chart to figure out what each letter is and ultimately where the next clue is leading them.
For example, if you wanted to leave a clue of "closet", create a clue using the Morse codes for the c-l-o-s-e-t letters. Color each Morse code letter differently or have each letter on a separate line so it is easier for the kids to solve.
Your clue note could read:
"The mutant toys have a tip for you but they cannot speak - they only know Morse code.
Luckily, someone documented their Morse code into this clue.
Now it’s up to you to solve this clue using the Morse code chart provided".
Bo Peep Challenge:
Another challenge could be to help Bo Peep (she’s the porcelain shepherdess figurine in the movie) find her missing sheep.
Cut sheep shapes out of white paper and hide them around a room or outside. The clue could read:
’Bo Peep has lost her sheep and doesn’t know where to find them.
Can you help her? There are {x amount} of sheep to be found and brought back here.
Once you find all of the sheep, you’ll be given your next clue".
RC Challenge:
RC is a remote controlled buggy in the Toy Story movie. A challenge could be to provide the children with boxes, tape and cardboard and have them create a jump ramp for RC.
If you have a remote controlled car, the children could test their ramp after they build it to make sure it works. Your clue could read:
"In his path of destruction, Emperor Zurg has destroyed RC’s jump ramp.
Can you help him build a new one using these supplies?
After a successful jump by a remote car on your newly created ramp, you’ll be given your next clue".
Including "Sid" in Your Toy Story Games
A Toy Story birthday party wouldn’t be complete unless you included Sid somehow. Lead the children to one door with a "Beware Of Dogs" sign and yellow caution tape and leave a sign under it that reads:
"Sid & Scud (Sid’s vicious bull terrier - the toy-chewing machine)
are behind this door - DO NOT ENTER!".
Buzz Lightyear Challenge:
Conclude your Toy Story Games with a final clue to help the children to locate the hidden Buzz Lightyear toy. Then everyone can celebrate their victory with cake!
